The first two installments in the Octopath Traveler series, Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler II, are scheduled for release on Switch 2 on October 1. This launch coincides with the eighth anniversary of the franchise. Both titles will be offered individually, available in both digital and physical formats, and will also be sold as a digital-only bundle.
Octopath Traveler, originally released in 2018, and Octopath Traveler II, which launched in 2023, will feature enhanced frame rates and resolutions on the new hardware. However, Square Enix has confirmed that there will be no upgrade path for players who own the original Nintendo Switch versions of these HD-2D role-playing games. Additionally, save data will not be transferable between the Switch and Switch 2 editions, meaning progress from the original versions cannot be carried over to the new releases.
