Order of the Sinking Star, the latest puzzle game from Jonathan Blow, the acclaimed creator of Braid and The Witness, is set to launch on October 8. Developed by Blow's studio, Thekla, the game was initially revealed at The Game Awards 2025.
The expansive title is set in a fantasy world comprised of more than 1,000 unique, interconnected puzzles. Players assume the role of a princess who has been transported to an unfamiliar realm. This new world is divided into four distinct biomes, each populated with unique characters and puzzles. As players progress, the mechanics of these individual puzzles will converge, leading to increasingly complex challenges.
Due to the sheer scale of Order of the Sinking Star, Thekla collaborated with a notable roster of game designers. Among those who contributed to the project are Alan Hazelden (Skipping Stones to Lonely Homes, Mirror Isles), Sean Barrett (Promesst), Jonah Ostroff (Heroes of Sokoban), Zach Polansky (Enigmash), Patrick Traynor (Patrick's Parabox), and Marc ten Bosch (Miegakure).
"Order of the Sinking Star simply wouldn’t exist without the incredible designers who helped work on it over the years," stated Jonathan Blow in a press release. "By creating a kind of game design supercollider, we were able to bring together ideas from some of the most brilliant puzzle designers in the industry. I’m grateful to everyone who contributed to help us push the limits of what's possible in a puzzle adventure. We can’t wait for players to step into this world and discover just how deep and complex it really is."
Order of the Sinking Star will be available on PlayStation 5, Switch 2, and PC.
