Powerbomb Games and Tinker Town have announced that their arcade-inspired Australian Rules Football title, Pro Jank Footy, will officially launch on August 13, 2026. The game aims to capture the spirit of classic arcade sports titles like NBA Jam and NHL '94, but with a significant emphasis on absurdity rather than realism.
Pro Jank Footy injects a variety of outlandish power-ups into the sport. These range from doubling the number of players on the field to introducing a third team mid-match, placing brick walls between goalposts, utilizing portals, having a player's car join the team, or even transforming all players into footballs. The game's developer, David Ashby, co-creator of the comedy series Danger 5, described it as a "love letter to Aussie Rules Footy and our absurd culture." Ashby added that the game aims to deliver an authentic arcade football experience while also serving as an accessible entry point for those unfamiliar with the sport or uninterested in sports generally.
The title features a launch trailer created by Australian animator and filmmaker Michael Cusack, known for his work on YOLO: Crystal Fantasy and Smiling Friends. In-game commentary is provided by Broden Kelly from Aunty Donna. Pro Jank Footy is designed for solo play, local couch multiplayer, and online matches. It will be available on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch/Switch 2.
