A physical edition of the popular farming simulator Stardew Valley is slated for release on February 5, 2027, for the Nintendo Switch 2. This upcoming version will feature a traditional cartridge and an accompanying game manual, harkening back to older console releases.
The physical edition bundles the original Nintendo Switch version of Stardew Valley along with a Switch 2 upgrade pack. This pack introduces several enhancements for the new hardware, including mouse controls, local split-screen multiplayer supporting up to four players, and online multiplayer for up to eight players. Additionally, it incorporates a 'Game Share' feature, enabling the game's owner to invite up to three other players for shared gaming sessions.
The cartridge for this release will contain the game's v1.6 update. Players will need to download any subsequent patches released after the cartridge's inclusion. The physical edition is designed to be accessible for newcomers, featuring an 18-page manual that covers the game's basics and includes a map.
For collectors, this physical release is presented as a notable addition to their collections. However, players who already own the physical version of Stardew Valley on the original Switch may find little reason to purchase the new edition. The manual is reportedly identical to the original, and the Switch 2 upgrade pack will be available as a free download from the eShop. The primary distinctions are the console branding on the packaging and the associated cost.
The physical edition for the Switch 2 is priced at $39, a $4 increase over the $35 cost of the original Switch physical edition. This price difference accounts for the updated packaging and the upgrade pack, which can be obtained without charge. Collectors seeking more extensive content might consider the original Switch's deluxe variant, priced at $59. This deluxe version includes a larger box, a wooden pin, a mini farm deed, art cards, a mini comic, and a fold-out poster.
