StarRupture lands in Early Access, fusing Satisfactory-like base-building with four-player shoot-and-explore on an alien world

StarRupture is out now in early access, offering up to four-player co-op, a sprawling base-building loop, and an open world where temperatures swing and resources drive the pace of exploration. The project is pitched as Satisfactory with a stronger emphasis on shooting and cooperative play, pairing factory-scale construction with combat against alien fauna.

Developed by Creepy Jar, the studio behind Green Hell, StarRupture places you and a crew of convicts on a distant world where you owe intergalactic authorities a debt of exotic ore. A female chatbot overseer acts as a guide—snarky, corporate, and occasionally inscrutable—as players lay down solar panels, conveyors, and 3D printers to sustain outposts.

The world is populated by diverse biomes and a swarm of insect-like creatures that periodically assault outposts, challenging turret arrays and defenses. Players must blanket the environment with modular infrastructure while probing caves or ruins that purportedly hold narrative mysteries. Early access includes the majority of the intended gameplay mechanics, with up to four players able to cooperate to build, fight, and explore a substantial portion of the open world. The developer notes indicate that the full release will expand biomes, enemies, buildings, and mechanics, and will include a more ambitious endgame.

The tone leans into satirical sci-fi survival, balancing earnest exploration with moments of dry humor and pulp action. The pitch and public notes hint at a mood reminiscent of classic sci-fi action, with sequences described as akin to Michael Ironside’s last stand in Starship Troopers.

In context of its studio lineage, Green Hell remains a frequently cited example of Creepy Jar's technical ambition. A 2019 Rock Paper Shotgun piece praised its beauty and technical execution while noting that traditional survival loops remained solid but sometimes underwhelming. As of press time, Green Hell was listed at 90% off on Steam, a data point used to contextualize the studio's earlier work.

StarRupture is currently in early access with ongoing development; the plan is to broaden biomes, enemies, buildings, and the endgame ahead of a full release. For players who want an open-world factory-plus-shooter experience with cooperative play, StarRupture offers a concrete option to explore, defend, and uncover mysteries on a volatile alien world.
