Super Woden: Rally Edge Arrives on Consoles September 2, Offering Retro Arcade Racing Thrills

For racing game enthusiasts seeking an alternative to the expansive open worlds of titles like Forza Horizon 6, the indie arcade racer Super Woden: Rally Edge is set to launch on consoles on September 2. Originally released on Steam in January to significant praise from the racing game community, the game will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.

Developed by a solo Spanish developer, ViJuDa, Super Woden: Rally Edge presents a focused, time-trial-based arcade racing experience. The game adopts a top-down perspective, reminiscent of classic toylike racers such as Micro Machines, providing a clear view of the track. Its visual style draws inspiration from early Gran Turismo and other PlayStation 1-era games, featuring a grainy, slightly cel-shaded aesthetic and incorporating unlicensed homages to iconic rally cars like the Lancia Stratos.

The core gameplay loop emphasizes precision and mastering each stage's time trial. The game features a well-regarded handling model that aims to be both simple and satisfying, encouraging players to continually refine their lines and shave off precious seconds. Beyond the core time trials, Super Woden: Rally Edge includes a career mode that allows players to acquire and upgrade their vehicles, as well as a four-player local multiplayer option.

Completing the retro-inspired package is a notable soundtrack that developer ViJuDa has described as "banging." A physical edition of Super Woden: Rally Edge, which will also include its predecessors Super Woden GP and Super Woden GP 2, is slated for an October release.
