Fans of psychological horror and internet folklore can now preorder a physical release of the A24 film Backrooms, which will be available on 4K UHD and Blu-ray on November 17. The movie, inspired by the popular Backrooms creepypasta, is also available to rent or purchase digitally.
The film stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as a furniture store manager who discovers a portal in the store's basement that leads to a disorienting alternate reality. This dimension consists of an endless network of interconnected yellow rooms and corridors, characterized by unsettling architecture, flickering fluorescent lights, and the presence of a lurking creature.
Directed by Kane Parsons, Backrooms marked his feature directorial debut. The movie has achieved significant commercial success, grossing over $400 million worldwide and making Parsons, at 20 years old, the youngest director to have a film debut at number one at both domestic and global box offices. IGN's review praised the film for its smart visual composition, terrifying production design, complex protagonist, and effective use of computer-generated sequences.
The 4K UHD edition is priced at $35, while the Blu-ray version is $30. Digital rental costs $7.99, with purchase options available for $19.99. The release includes six collectible postcards.
