The limited-edition 4K Steelbook for Toy Story 5, initially in high demand and quickly selling out, has returned to stock exclusively at Amazon. Preorders for the 4K Blu-ray release, along with standard Blu-ray and DVD versions, are available with a release date of September 22.
The premium steelbook edition features distinctive watercolor artwork that celebrates the entire Toy Story franchise, rather than focusing solely on the new sequel. The cover art includes the main trio of toys and new characters, while the reverse side depicts the tire swing tree prominently featured in Toy Story 2 and making a return in the new film.
Demand for the steelbook was reportedly driven, in part, by the apparent absence of a standard 4K UHD release, making the steelbook the sole option for those seeking the movie in that format.
Standard Blu-ray and DVD editions are still available at multiple retailers. These versions use cover art consistent with the primary Toy Story 5 poster, showcasing the familiar toys reacting to the sequel's antagonist, LilyPad. A previously mentioned collected set of all five Toy Story movies has not yet been listed for preorder.
All formats—DVD, Blu-ray, and the limited-edition 4K steelbook—will include a consistent set of bonus features. These include featurettes such as "The Toys Are Back in Town," "Casting Playtime," "50 Buzzes and The Great Escape," "The Lost Toys," and a gag reel. Additionally, deleted scenes and a feature commentary track with co-director Kenna Harris, production designer Bob Pauley, and VFX supervisor Thomas Jordan are included.
Toy Story 5 was released in theaters in June and achieved over $1.1 billion in worldwide box office gross. The film has been noted for its "adventurous and resonant conclusion." It became available digitally earlier this week and is expected to begin streaming on Disney+ by the end of September.
