Wardogs Enters Early Access September 10, Offers Beta Refunds

The multiplayer shooter Wardogs is set to launch on Steam early access on September 10, developer Bulkhead announced. The game, which has accumulated over 800,000 wishlists on Steam, will offer a closed beta weekend from August 21-23. In a notable move, Bulkhead is offering refunds to players who participate in the closed beta but are unsatisfied with the game, indicating confidence in its current state.

Wardogs will be priced at $40 during its early access period, with plans to increase the cost to $60 at full release. While early access will not feature in-game monetization, the developer has stated that paid cosmetics are expected after the full launch. The initial release will include cosmetic items available in the Supporters edition.

The game features large-scale battles designed for up to 100 players, blending combined-arms combat reminiscent of the Battlefield series with the logistical depth found in titles like Hell Let Loose, Squad, and Arma. At launch, early access will include three maps, each with three variations, alongside several vehicles and weapons. The development team intends to remain in early access for approximately 24 months, focusing on performance, stability, balance, bug fixes, and addressing player feedback.

Bulkhead has maintained a transparent approach to Wardogs' development and marketing, regularly communicating project goals with its community. The studio has proactively addressed potential concerns regarding visual fidelity versus performance and the ambitious player count. A "10 Reasons NOT to Buy" trailer was released to offer prospective players a candid look at the early access experience.

Wardogs' primary game mode is Control Zone, where three mercenary teams compete to capture key locations and accumulate cash. This in-game currency can be used in a meta-game component to purchase weapons, vehicles, and other essential items. Successful completion of objectives, including transport tasks, contributes to a player's earnings.
