Final Fantasy VII Revelation will offer players four distinct graphics modes on the PlayStation 5 Pro, according to director Naoki Hamaguchi. During a hands-on preview at Tokyo Game Show, players could access settings for "Quality," "Performance – Sharp," and "Performance – Soft."
Quality mode is designed to provide the highest resolution, potentially at a locked 30 frames per second, though this could not be confirmed during the preview. The two performance modes, "Performance – Sharp" and "Performance – Soft," return from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and aim to deliver 60 FPS gameplay. Similar to Rebirth's implementation, "Performance – Soft" offers a smoother image quality at 60 FPS, while "Performance – Sharp" prioritizes sharper visuals at the same framerate. Hamaguchi indicated that differences between these modes would be noticeable in elements such as hair rendering, environmental details, and shading.
Additionally, Hamaguchi indicated via social media that the PS5 Pro will utilize PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) to enable a mode that combines 4K image quality with a 60 FPS framerate. The specific name for this mode was not revealed, and it was not present in the preview build, making its exact implementation unclear.
It remains unknown which of these modes will be available on the base PlayStation 5 model, though it is expected to offer the three modes seen in the preview build, excluding the PSSR-enhanced option, if it mirrors Rebirth's PS5 support.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC on April 8, 2027.
