Fumito Ueda, the visionary director behind Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian, has expressed a desire to see his earlier works made available to PC players.
While Ueda has past credits on MS-DOS horror titles D and Enemy Zero from his time at Warp, his directorial efforts for Sony have been exclusive to the PlayStation platform until now. His upcoming project, Gen Atlas, developed in partnership with Epic Games, will mark the first game he has directed to launch on PC. "I have nothing but excitement and am happy that this can reach a lot more players just from day one," Ueda stated regarding the PC release of Gen Atlas. "I'm looking forward to it as much as I think new players are looking forward to experiencing a Fumito Ueda game."
Given this new direction, the opportunity arose to ask about the possibility of his iconic PlayStation titles finding a new home on PC. Ueda responded that if such an opportunity arises, "I think it's only good news for the games."
It is important to note that the decision to port Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian to PC is not solely Ueda's. The first two titles were created during his tenure as a Sony employee. Although he later founded his own studio, Gen Design, for The Last Guardian, Sony retains the rights to that game as well. With Sony's current strategy, it appears unlikely that PC ports of these acclaimed titles are a priority at this time. Nevertheless, Ueda conveyed his personal hope, stating, "I hope so too."
