Sony has stated that Grand Theft Auto 6 will "play best on PS5," citing the console's unique features and its "close partnership" with Rockstar Games. The announcement, made on the PlayStation Blog, suggests that PlayStation 5 owners will experience a more immersive version of the highly anticipated title.
According to Sony, the PS5's DualSense controller will be instrumental in delivering this enhanced experience. Players will benefit from the controller's haptic feedback and integrated speaker system, which will provide tactile sensations and deliver sound effects directly from the controller. While the Xbox Series X/S controller also offers vibration, it will apparently lack the specific "sound effects from the controller" that are planned for the PS5 version.
Furthermore, Sony emphasized the PS5's Tempest 3D AudioTech, promising players can "surround [themselves] in the distinct soundscapes of Leonida" with "highly accurate audio positioning." The game is also set to leverage the PS5's ultra-high-speed SSD, enabling "near-instant load times." The extent to which these features will differ from the Xbox Series X/S experience remains unclear, though Sony's blog post suggests a distinct advantage for PlayStation users.
The marketing push aligns with Rockstar's release strategy, and notably, no similar announcement has been made on the Xbox Wire. Sony also pointed out that Grand Theft Auto 6 will not be available on last-generation consoles, as there is no PS4 version planned. This positions the launch of GTA 6 as a significant incentive for players to upgrade to a PS5, a message Sony has reportedly conveyed to its existing customer base.
Rockstar Games has recently shared further details about Grand Theft Auto 6, including its price point, a $100 Ultimate Edition, and 63 new screenshots.
