YouTube personality MrBeast, real name James Donaldson, is collaborating with author James Patterson on a new novel titled "The Most Dangerous Games." The book, described as "the book event of the year," is set to release on September 1. Its deluxe edition is currently available for preorder.
The novel's premise involves one hundred contestants participating in a high-stakes competition with the stated goal of saving humanity and a one billion dollar reward. The blurb highlights the intensity of the competition, suggesting it is a significant escalation from MrBeast's previous online content. This concept draws parallels to the popular South Korean series "Squid Game," which itself was inspired by the Japanese novel and film "Battle Royale," both featuring deadly contests for survival.
Donaldson expressed that he found books boring in his youth but realized later that reading the right material could be exciting. He stated his intention with "The Most Dangerous Games" was to create a story that would have captivated him as a child, aiming to make reading appealing to a younger audience and "get a whole generation psyched about reading again." He believes he and Patterson have succeeded in this endeavor.
Patterson, a prolific author known for his thriller novels, commented on the collaboration, praising Donaldson's storytelling instincts and noting the positive back-and-forth creative process between them. Patterson has previously utilized a team of co-authors to maintain his output.
