Warner Bros. has secured the rights to adapt the internet-famous creepypasta Siren Head into a feature film. Zach Cregger, known for his work on the horror film Weapons, is attached to co-write the script and produce the project. Brian Duffield, who penned the upcoming survival film Whalefall, will also co-write and direct the Siren Head adaptation.
Siren Head, a towering, spindly monster with sirens for a head, was created by Canadian illustrator Trevor Henderson in 2018. The creature gained significant online traction between 2019 and 2020, inspiring a wave of indie horror games. This move by Warner Bros. appears to follow the successful theatrical run of Backrooms, another creepypasta adaptation that garnered critical acclaim and significant box office returns, reportedly earning $330 million against a $10 million budget. The studio is likely aiming to replicate this success with the Siren Head film.
Cregger will produce alongside Roy Lee and Andrew Childs of Vertigo Entertainment, with Scott Glassgold of 12:01 Films also attached as a producer. Vertigo Entertainment previously produced Cregger's horror film Weapons. The attachment of Cregger, a notable figure in the horror genre, positions Siren Head as a potentially highly anticipated film in the coming years, especially as interest in a "creepypasta cinematic universe" grows.
