Jack Black, reprising his role, expressed his excitement for the sequel, noting that a large team is working to elevate the production. The event also introduced Matt Berry as a new addition to the cast. While Berry appeared in the first film as the villager Nitwit and a love interest for Jennifer Coolidge's character, speculation suggests he might be taking on a more significant role, potentially portraying the urban legend Herobrine. This theory is fueled by Berry being presented with a jumper similar to the one Jack Black wore while playing Steve during the Minecraft Live event, though he could also portray another iteration of Steve.
Actress Danielle Brooke, who played Dawn in the original movie, confirmed that the sequel will venture deeper into the Minecraft world, introducing new biomes, characters, and familiar mobs. Concept art revealed during the showcase included cubed polar bears, hinting at the visual style.
