Sources indicate that a narrowed field of candidates, ranging from five to seven and potentially up to the teens, are in contention for the iconic role.
Villeneuve has been personally reaching out to actors who have auditioned, inviting them for a second round of auditions scheduled for August. The casting process, which began this spring, appears to be moving with considerable speed. While specific actors called back have not been confirmed, reports suggest that individuals such as Harris Dickinson, Callum Turner, and Jacob Elordi align with the "prototype" producers are seeking for the next iteration of the secret agent.
Although a definitive casting announcement may still be some time away, Amazon aims to reveal the new Bond by the end of the year. Production for the film is slated to commence in 2027. This upcoming 007 installment will be the first under Amazon's ownership and will be directed by Villeneuve, with Steven Knight handling the screenplay. There is speculation that Amazon is looking for a slightly younger actor to portray Bond, a departure from previous iterations.
The search for the next Bond follows Daniel Craig's tenure, during which he expressed a desire for a break after the demanding production of "Spectre." Craig later clarified that his comments about not wanting to return were partly due to recovering from an injury sustained during filming and a momentary doubt about his capacity to undertake another demanding role, rather than an outright rejection of the character.
