Andy Weir, renowned for his grounded sci-fi survival tales like The Martian and Project Hail Mary, is venturing into more surreal territory with Exoplanet. This new full-cast audio experience, written by Benjamin Percy and executive produced by Weir for Audible, combines the author's signature focus on ingenuity with a concept reminiscent of The Twilight Zone.
Exoplanet follows the crew of the starship Wild Blue Yonder, who find themselves scattered across different eras on the same alien planet after their vessel is torn apart by an unknown force. The thriller is set to release on November 5th. Audible has shared an exclusive clip featuring Science Officer Logan Bowers, voiced by John Leguizamo, who awakens injured in a bizarre, idyllic future that feels plucked from a 1950s sitcom. Despite the cheerful facade, Logan's pleas for help are met with indifference until a sheriff-like figure warns him of an ominous presence that is rapidly approaching.
Meanwhile, First Officer Becca Bang, portrayed by Ariana DeBose, must navigate survival in the past, while Chief Engineer Jeff Shaw, voiced by Anthony Mackie, attempts to return to his daughter in the present. The crew's overarching mission is to establish communication across temporal divides and thwart an alien intelligence that intends to use human technology to rewrite reality.
The audio drama boasts immersive sound design from Skywalker Sound and a score by Rob Cairns, known for his work on Love, Death + Robots. The supporting cast includes Cherry Jones, Sufe Bradshaw, and Charlie Plummer.
