Anne Hathaway is set to star opposite Tom Cruise in the upcoming sequel to the 1990 film Days of Thunder. Cruise revealed Hathaway's casting via social media, sharing a teaser image with a Summer 2028 release date. In a subsequent video, Hathaway, who is currently pregnant, stated that she would deliver her baby before commencing filming.
Paramount Pictures confirmed the news in an official press release, announcing that the film will be shot for IMAX and is scheduled for theatrical release on June 2, 2028, in premium large formats including IMAX, 4DX, and Dolby Cinema. Cruise will reprise his role as NASCAR driver Cole Trickle and will also serve as a producer alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper. Jonathan Levine, known for directing "50/50" and "Warm Bodies," is attached to direct, with Will Staples penning the script.
Hathaway, an Oscar winner, was most recently seen in "The End of Oak Street" and Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey." Her upcoming projects include the thriller "Verity" and "The Devil Wears Prada 2."
Tom Cruise's next appearance will be in Alejandro G. Iñárritu's "Digger," which Cruise has described as a completely original project unlike anything he has previously undertaken. The original "Days of Thunder" was previously recognized by IGN as one of the 15 best racing movies of all time.
