Archie Andrews, a character known for navigating typical teenage woes alongside extraordinary circumstances like zombie apocalypses and encounters with the Predator, is set to confront his most daunting challenge yet: Hell itself. Oni Press and Archie Comics have announced a new horror series, "Archie in Hell," slated for release in November.
This new venture is described as the spiritual successor to the fan-favorite "Afterlife With Archie." The upcoming comic is penned by Eisner Award nominee Patrick Horvath and illustrated by Russ Manning Award winner Tyler Crook. "Getting the opportunity to work on this book has been a series of pleasant surprises," Horvath stated, noting that the project aligned perfectly with his schedule when Oni Press proposed it. Crook expressed his enthusiasm for the series, highlighting its compelling fusion of horror elements with historical undertones within the familiar Riverdale setting.
The official synopsis reveals that Riverdale harbors a sinister secret: an ancient cult, the Order of A'ldarax, has infiltrated the town. Their objective is to perform a human sacrifice to usher a demon lord into the mortal realm, with their sights set on the unsuspecting Archie Andrews. However, their plans are complicated by the presence of witches in Riverdale. When the cult's ritual and a coven's magic collide, the consequences are described as cosmic, ultimately damning Archie to a fate worse than the deepest circles of Hell.
Preview pages suggest that Sabrina Spellman, Greendale's teenage witch, plays a role in uncovering the cult's nefarious plot. The artwork, transitioning from a nostalgic style to overt body horror, hints at the dire fate awaiting Archie. "Archie in Hell" #1 is scheduled to launch on November 4, 2026.
Prior to "Archie in Hell," readers can anticipate the debut of the new flagship Archie title on September 2, 2026. This will be followed by a new "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" comic in October, with all three series launching in celebration of Archie Comics' 85th anniversary.
