Atari has announced a significant deal with Universal Pictures that could see up to 10 of its classic video game properties adapted into films. This partnership, facilitated by Entertainment 360, signals a continued trend of Hollywood mining established video game intellectual property for new content. While not all 10 potential projects are guaranteed to move forward, the agreement provides Universal with the option to develop these iconic titles for cinematic release.

Details surrounding the first film to be developed under this new deal remain scarce, though it is described as an "original spec" project. Matt Reilly, a former Universal executive now working as a screenwriter and producer, has been attached to write and produce this initial film. He is joined by producer Carl Hampe, who has previous credits on films such as 2019's Hellboy and Jungle Cruise. The full list of Atari properties included in the 10-movie deal comprises.

Atari CEO and chairman Wade Rosen expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, "We are excited to work with Universal and Entertainment 360 to bring the spirit of our iconic brand and games to a new medium.” The current Hollywood landscape is robust with video game adaptations, with over 50 projects reportedly in various stages of production. Upcoming releases include Zach Cregger's Resident Evil film in September and Street Fighter in October.
