This fall, fans in Japan will have the opportunity to experience the beginning and end of the Attack on Titan anime in highly immersive 4DX and ScreenX theaters. The special screenings are part of the celebration for "Attack on Titan Day," officially recognized on September 9.
Two films will be shown: "Attack on Titan Part 1: Guren no Yumiya," which compiles the first half of the anime's inaugural season, and "Attack on Titan: The Last Attack," a compilation of the series' finale. These are scheduled for October 23, 2026, and 2027, respectively. The exact date for the finale film has not yet been announced.
4DX theaters offer an enhanced viewing experience with motion-enabled chairs, wind, water effects, and other sensory elements designed to make audiences feel part of the action. These effects are intended to simulate in-anime events such as the use of 3D Maneuver Gear, dodging titans, and environmental hazards like steam.
ScreenX provides a different immersive format, projecting the film onto three screens that wrap around the audience, creating a panoramic and all-encompassing visual experience. This format is expected to heighten the impact of key moments like Eren Yeager's transformations and the chaotic events of the Rumbling.
These theatrical events are part of broader Attack on Titan celebrations. Kodansha is also organizing 99 special events inspired by the Nine Titans, including making the first 99 chapters of the manga available for free on the Magapoke app for 99 hours, concluding on September 13. Additionally, an official Attack on Titan YouTube channel has been launched, featuring exclusive content and limited-time anime streaming, with Season 1 episodes currently available weekly in Japan.
In related news, the video game "Attack on Titan 3" was showcased at Summer Game Fest and is slated for a December release. This game allows players to create their own characters and experience the events of the Rumbling within the anime's universe.
