Avatar Studios has unveiled a new trailer for its upcoming series, Avatar: Seven Havens, showcasing a dramatic shift in the franchise’s timeline and tone. Set approximately 300 years after the events of the original series, and 225 years after the conclusion of The Legend of Korra, Seven Havens plunges viewers into a post-apocalyptic world where the Avatar is reviled rather than revered. The series is slated to premiere on Paramount Plus in October.
The trailer offers a glimpse into a future where the world has suffered a cataclysmic event, hinted to be caused by a future Avatar. An aged Korra, depicted with white-streaked hair, is shown unleashing destructive spiritual energy upon a city in a rage, an act later memorialized in a mural that portrays her in the Avatar State as a demonic figure. This dark legacy profoundly impacts the new Avatar, a young Earthbender named Pavi.
Pavi lives in Ellora, a city shielded from harsh sandstorms by canyon walls. Here, children are taught to hate the Avatar for the destruction of their world. Pavi’s life takes a drastic turn when, during a sandstorm, she reveals her Avatar status by using both Earthbending and Airbending to save her Airbender friend, Jae. As news of the Avatar’s return spreads, Pavi and Jae become targets of those who hunt her, while also facing the ire of the spirit world.
Joining Pavi and Jae on their journey are unexpected allies. Pavi discovers she has a twin sister, Nisha, who is also an Earthbender with a giant cat-monkey companion. They also encounter members of the Order of the White Lotus, the ancient organization dedicated to safeguarding and training the Avatar.
Co-creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko have described Avatar: Seven Havens as a more mystery-driven series compared to their previous work. The show has already been greenlit for two 13-episode seasons, suggesting a deliberate unfolding of answers regarding how and why Korra’s actions led to the cataclysm, the circumstances of Pavi and Nisha’s separation, and the current state of the spirit world. The series premiere is scheduled for October 9.
