Chad Stahelski, the creative force behind the John Wick franchise, is set to produce a new action thriller titled Karoshi. The film, which has just released its first official trailer, is directed and written by Takashi Doscher and is slated for a February 5, 2027, release.
Karoshi is set in a near-future Manhattan where corporations wield significant control over their employees' lives. The plot centers on a mysterious outsider who infiltrates a company to expose its allegedly violent practices. The title itself refers to 'karoshi,' a Japanese term for death resulting from overwork.
While Stahelski is attached as a producer, the film features a notable cast. Teo Yoo, known for his role in Past Lives, stars as the protagonist. The ensemble also includes Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Takehiro Hira (Shogun), Isabel May (Scream 7), Bill Camp (The Leftovers), and Show Kasamatsu (Tokyo Vice).
Veteran cinematographer Pawel Pogorzelski, who previously worked on Ari Aster's films Hereditary, Midsommar, and Beau Is Afraid, is handling cinematography for Karoshi.
Beyond Karoshi, Stahelski has several other projects in development. He is currently directing a reboot of the 1980s film Highlander, starring Henry Cavill and Russell Crowe, with plans for the film to be the first in a trilogy. Additionally, Stahelski is involved in the production of a fifth live-action John Wick movie and an animated prequel film focusing on John Wick's escape from the High Table. He is also producing Caine, a spin-off film centered on Donnie Yen's character from John Wick: Chapter 4.
