The follow-up to the acclaimed 2022 anime series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, is set to premiere in fall 2026. The announcement was made by Netflix, Studio Trigger, and CD Projekt Red, with the official Edgerunners social media accounts confirming the release window and introducing a new cast of characters.
Following the dramatic events of the first season, which saw many characters meet their demise, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 will focus on a fresh ensemble. The newly revealed characters include D, a vengeful Netrunner from the Snake Nation; Roman Carax, a young cinephile and documentarian; Taila Yang, a member of the Maelstrom gang; and an Edgerunner named Weak Kingsley. While this new cast faces the challenge of becoming as memorable as protagonists Lucy and David, Studio Trigger aims to build upon the success of the original series.
The first season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was praised for its dynamic animation and inventive depiction of in-game concepts. Polygon's review noted that the show "feels exciting and new enough as it pushes the boundaries of its exciting and hugely inventive visual representation of in-game concepts."
The franchise has maintained its presence in pop culture through various crossovers. References to Edgerunners characters have appeared in Cyberpunk 2077, Lucy was featured as a guest fighter in Guilty Gear Strive, and a collaboration with Wuthering Waves is currently underway. It remains to be seen if Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 will receive similar cross-media promotions.
As with its predecessor, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 will be exclusively available to stream on Netflix upon its release in fall 2026.
