Netflix and CD Projekt Red have announced that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners season two is slated for release this autumn. The new season will introduce a fresh cast of characters to Night City, following the events of the first series which debuted in 2022.
Details emerged on June 28th, accompanied by a teaser trailer and character descriptions. The upcoming ten-episode season is being billed as a "raw chronicle of redemption and revenge." It poses the question: "In a city that thrives in the spotlight of violence, what extremes do you have to go to make your story matter?"
The new ensemble includes Weak Kingsley, a veteran edgerunner once known as 'King' who now "lives in the shadow of his former glory." D, a "Snake Nation netrunner with sharp technical skills and a sharper hunger for revenge," is seeking retribution against those who annihilated his nomad clan. Roman Carax is a "young cinephile" armed with a camcorder, exploring the city in search of authentic stories amidst a culture that has embraced braindances over cinema. Rounding out the main cast is Talia Yang, a character with pink hair who "hails from the corpo towers… but her heart belongs to chrome and violence."
Animation studio Trigger, the creative force behind the first season, returns for the second installment. Kai Ikarashi is directing, with Bartosz Sztybor serving as writer, showrunner, and producer. The first season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was noted for sparking renewed interest in the Cyberpunk 2077 video game, inspiring numerous playthroughs and mods. It remains to be seen if the new season will have a similar impact on the game and its community.
