A sequel to Quentin Tarantino's 2019 film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, directed by David Fincher and focusing on Brad Pitt's stuntman character Cliff Booth, has received an updated title, release window, and an exclusive IMAX engagement. The film, now officially titled The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, is set to debut on Netflix on December 23.
Prior to its streaming debut, audiences will have a chance to see the film on the largest screen possible. Netflix confirmed an exclusive two-week run in IMAX theaters globally, beginning November 25. This offers a limited window for fans eager to experience Fincher's directorial take on a continuation of Tarantino's narrative.
Brad Pitt will reprise his role as Cliff Booth. While the original film was set in 1969, the sequel takes place in 1977, presenting what Netflix describes as "a very different Hollywood." The ensemble cast includes Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Peter Weller, Matt Groove, JB Tadena, Corey Fogelmanis, and Karren Karagulian. The screenplay was written by Quentin Tarantino, who has yet to reveal his tenth and final directorial project.
The original Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was noted for its contemplative tone. Critic Karen Han described it in 2019 as "easily the quietest and most meditative of [Tarantino's] works, ending with a startlingly soft and sweet moment that contextualizes everything that came before it as, ultimately, a love letter."
