Disney has officially slated its live-action adaptation of Tangled for a March 31, 2028, release date. The announcement was made during the D23 2026 presentation and included a first glimpse of the film's cast, featuring Teagan Croft as Rapunzel, Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider, and Kathryn Hahn in the role of Mother Gothel.

This reimagining of the 2010 animated classic is part of Disney's ongoing strategy of producing live-action versions of its popular animated features. While specific plot changes from the original remain undisclosed, the casting and development have been progressing for some time. Croft and Manheim joined the project in January, with Hahn's casting as the villainous Mother Gothel confirmed in March.

Attendees at D23 were shown the cast in costume, and images of the film's production have also surfaced online. Behind-the-scenes photographs from a shoot in Spain, featuring Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, as well as Patrick and Hugo McPherson as the Stabbington brothers, have previously leaked.

The confirmation of the 2028 release date places the Tangled remake a year and a half away. The studio will have ample time to finalize production and marketing for the film, following recent announcements from the D23 2026 showcase.
