Jack Barton, the actor behind the formidable Messmer the Impaler in Elden Ring's "Shadow of the Erdtree" expansion, is reportedly a contender for the role of James Bond.

According to PageSix, Bond 26 director Denis Villeneuve and casting director Nina Gold are reportedly considering a "stream of unknowns" for the iconic 007 part. Barton's sole video game credit to date is his performance as Messmer. His television work includes roles in "SAS: Rogue Heroes" and "War of the Worlds," and he also appeared in Yorgos Lanthimos' 2023 film "Poor Things."

Barton is expected to undergo a screen test for the role, alongside other rumored candidates such as Jack Lowden, Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi, Paul Mescal, and Harris Dickson. These tests are slated to begin in early September.

Amazon MGM Studios confirmed in May that the search for the next James Bond actor was ongoing, but the studio has declined to comment on the casting process. The upcoming James Bond film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, known for his work on the "Dune" franchise, as well as "Prisoners," "Sicario," "Blade Runner 2049," and "Arrival."
