Emily Blunt, star of Steven Spielberg's science fiction film "Disclosure Day," has shed light on the enigmatic nature of her character Margaret's superhuman abilities. The film, which marks Spielberg's return to the sci-fi genre after "Ready Player One" in 2018, is now available for digital rental and will see a physical release on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD on August 25.
In "Disclosure Day," Margaret is one of two individuals who receive extraordinary powers from extraterrestrial visitors as part of their plan to eventually reveal themselves to humanity. While her co-star John O'Connor portrays a character with an innate understanding of mathematics and machines, Margaret's empathic powers are more abstract and, arguably, more potent. Blunt explained in an exclusive behind-the-scenes clip from the home release that the conception of these abilities involved considerable experimentation.
"There's different iterations of these abilities, like when she eye-locks with someone... I think we've experimented with different versions depending on who she's eye-locking with and how comfortable she is with these powers," Blunt stated. "When she's able to drop in on them and read everything, and everything that causes them pain or joy... It can be deliberate, or it can be happenstance, or it can surprise her, or it can surprise the person... That shapeshifts throughout the course of the film as well."
The physical release of "Disclosure Day" will include bonus features such as a 50-minute documentary titled "Encountering the Unknown: Inside Disclosure Day," featuring interviews with Spielberg, Blunt, and the cast. A separate featurette will also celebrate the collaboration between Spielberg and composer John Williams, who composed the film's score.
