Sony Pictures Entertainment has unveiled the first full-length trailer for "Resident Evil," the new film adaptation of the popular video game franchise directed by Zach Cregger. The movie is slated for theatrical release on September 18.
While previous teasers offered a glimpse of the protagonist and the film's atmosphere, this latest trailer provides a more detailed look at the plot and introduces several supporting characters. The story centers on Bryan, portrayed by Austin Abrams, a transplant organ courier who is tasked with delivering a special package to Raccoon City. As players of the game series know, Raccoon City is on the verge of a devastating zombie outbreak.
The trailer incorporates several references to the video game series, including Bryan's method of scavenging for ammunition, which mirrors the mechanics seen in the games, and the presence of a typewriter, a recurring save point in the franchise, found in a house he visits. Despite these nods, the film appears to follow an original narrative.
The cast also includes Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Paul Walter Hauser. Cherry and Reis play characters who seem to be involved in the events, while Hauser is featured as Carl, a scientist working for the Umbrella Corporation, the notorious research organization central to the Resident Evil universe. The trailer offers a brief look at his character.
"Resident Evil" will be available in theaters starting September 18.
