The Pokémon Company International and Aardman have unveiled the first teaser trailer for Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch'd & Pichu, a forthcoming stop-motion series. The trailer premiered at Pokémon XP in San Francisco, coinciding with the 2026 Pokémon World Championships, during a panel that offered a behind-the-scenes look at the production. The series is slated for a 2027 debut exclusively on Disney+.
The video description outlines a narrative following "unlikely heroes, Sirfetch'd and Pichu, in their gallant quest to protect Pokémon across Galar." While their missions may not always succeed as planned, the description suggests their endeavors will forge their friendship as they "step bravely into the unknown," promising peril, alliances, rivalries, and "endless laughs."
During the panel, Pokémon's director of original animation Phil Rynda joined Aardman's director Tom Parkinson, creative director of IP development Nat McKay, and model-making creative lead James Young. They discussed the show's puppets, sets, and the overall production process. This new series joins Pokémon the Series: The Beginning on Disney+.
Set within the Galar region, Pokémon Tales will feature Sirfetch'd and Pichu embarking on a mission to "help and protect Pokémon across the region." The series will introduce new Pokémon and locations, including Obstagoon and the Crown Tundra area, both previously featured in Pokémon Sword and Shield. Director Tom Parkinson described Sirfetch'd as possessing a "wonderfully noble, slightly bumbling energy – determined to be the best knight in the whole of Galar." Pichu was characterized as a "playful, curious squire, and often, actual voice of reason." He added that they are "best friends, and we think audiences are going to fall in love watching them stumble, succeed and help Pokémon in need along the way."
Phil Rynda commented on Aardman's ability to bring the world to life, stating, "Aardman has brought Galar to life in a way that makes you feel like you can smell the air, touch the tree bark, and want to adventure alongside our series heroes." Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family, highlighted the series as a significant addition to Disney+'s Pokémon content.
Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch'd & Pichu is the latest project from Bristol-based Aardman, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
