Attendees at Anime Expo were treated to a preliminary look at the character designs for the upcoming anime adaptation of PlayStation's Ghost of Tsushima, with a particular focus on the characters from its Legends multiplayer mode. The revealed artwork showcased the Assassin, Ronin, and Hunter archetypes that the protagonist, one of the last samurai, will encounter.
The character designs are being brought to life by Takashi Okazaki, creator of Afro Samurai. The adaptation is being produced by Aniplex, known for its work on series like Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Solo Leveling, and Sword Art Online. Takanobu Mizuno is directing the series, with script duties handled by Satoshi Maejima and Gen Urobuchi, who also co-founded the game and visual novel studio NITRO PLUS.
PlayStation Productions head Asad Qizilbash announced the series in January 2025, stating, "Having already proven the immense quality and versatility of our gaming properties across multiple successful film and television projects, we couldn’t be more excited to announce our first-ever anime adaptation." He further noted that "Ghost of Tsushima’s rich, immersive world and its fantastical Legends mode based on Japanese mythology provide the perfect canvas for this project, and Aniplex is the perfect partner to translate Sucker Punch Productions’ hit video game into a stunning new anime series."
The Ghost of Tsushima anime is slated for an exclusive release on Crunchyroll in 2027.
