Helluva Boss is set to debut its third season on Prime Video on October 14, marking a significant shift for the animated series. This move from YouTube, where seasons one and two remain available, allows for greater creative and linguistic freedom. Creator Vivienne Medrano noted that the platform change has alleviated concerns about content restrictions, particularly regarding language.
"It's been really nice to kinda go, 'You know what? Let's just do it the way we wanna do it, and we'll deal with YouTube later,'" Medrano explained. She highlighted that previous seasons required active censorship of words, even impacting the writing process. The upcoming season, however, will benefit from the less restrictive environment of Prime Video.
Season 3 will be split into two parts, with the latter half scheduled for release in 2027. Medrano anticipates the first half of the season will serve as a setup for larger narrative developments in the second half. Despite the shift in distribution, Medrano emphasized that the show's creative vision remains unchanged. "The show is still 100% our creative vision," she stated.
Visually, Medrano described season 3 as one of the best-looking seasons of either of her shows, alongside Hazbin Hotel. The season will delve into thematic explorations for its various characters, with a central idea of "finding yourself and being yourself." This theme will manifest differently for each character, including Millie's journey with her pregnancy and Moxie's arc, which will be more prominent in the second half of the season.
The relationship between the characters Blitzo and Stolas, a core element for many fans, is confirmed to be far from over. Medrano indicated that while they have significant personal growth to undergo, their story is central to the season's narrative. "I want to make sure everyone is aware that their story is not done," she said. The season aims to show them starting in one place and ending in a different, evolved state.
The series will also offer insights into the life cycle and society of Hellborn characters. While season 3 primarily focuses on the characters as they are and how current events affect them, Medrano plans to explore the world of Hellborn more extensively in seasons 3 and 4. The first part of season 3 will include a look into Millie's backstory.
Medrano also touched on the demanding nature of managing multiple projects, including the upcoming movie Prehistoria and Zoophobia shorts, alongside Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss seasons 3 and 4. Her daily routine is characterized by constant meetings and reviews across various stages of production, from writing and storyboarding to animation. Despite the intense schedule, Medrano expressed passion for her work, embracing the challenges of her expansive creative endeavors.
