A new Warhammer 40,000 animated series is in development at Amazon, with Henry Cavill attached as an executive producer. The project aims to tell a "long-form story" centered on the Deathwatch, an elite group of alien-hunting Space Marines.
This series will build upon the foundation of the Warhammer 40,000 episode that aired as part of Amazon's animated anthology show, Secret Level, in 2024. Dave Wilson, who directed that initial episode, will return to direct and co-create the new series alongside writer John Orloff. The animation will once again be provided by Blur Studios.
A separate Warhammer: Age of Sigmar episode is also slated for the second season of Secret Level.
While specific details about the full animated series remain scarce, it is confirmed to feature the Deathwatch. Director Dave Wilson described the endeavor as a "long-form story" within the Warhammer 40,000 universe. He noted that Secret Level was conceived as a platform for more extensive narratives, and the positive fan reception to the Warhammer episode has paved the way for this larger project. Wilson expressed a long-held desire to tell an extended Warhammer 40,000 story, thanking Games Workshop and Amazon MGM Studios for the opportunity.
This animated series is separate from the previously announced live-action Warhammer 40,000 series, which also involves Amazon and Henry Cavill. Horror filmmaker Mike Flanagan has also joined the live-action project, though a script has yet to be written, leaving the possibility that the animated series could debut first.
Amazon's slate of game-related adaptations also includes the recently released Fallout series, an upcoming Tomb Raider show starring Sophie Turner, a God of War series currently undergoing casting changes, and a Life is Strange adaptation that is filming.
