Hideo Kojima, the renowned game creator behind the Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding franchises, has offered his perspective on the recently released Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day. In a brief review shared on X/Twitter, Kojima expressed that the movie felt "fresh" and that he "really enjoyed" its narrative focus.

Kojima described the film's central theme as "a lonely hero. A lonely Spidey. A lonely Peter Parker." He noted a significant structural departure from previous Spider-Man iterations, observing that while the cast and story continue from prior installments, the film effectively resets the narrative. "Until now, Spider-Man films have generally been grouped into self-contained trilogies," Kojima stated. "With each new iteration, the cast and creative team changed, allowing the franchise to reinvent itself for a new era. This time, however, while both the cast and the story continue from the previous film, everything has been reset."

He elaborated on the film's emphasis on Peter Parker's isolation and internal struggles, calling the structure "very clever" as it functions both as a new beginning and a direct continuation. Kojima also reflected on the broader challenges of modern filmmaking, particularly the difficulty in balancing artistic intent with audience expectations, a challenge amplified by social media discourse. "Genuine, heartfelt filmmaking is becoming increasingly challenging. Because of that, this is a film that puts the 'Brand' in 'Brand New Day' to the test, as part of a blockbuster franchise that simply cannot afford to fail," he commented.

This review follows Kojima's established pattern of sharing more in-depth thoughts on films that resonate with him. His engagement with his audience extends beyond game development, with social media often featuring his commentary on various media and cultural touchstones. For Spider-Man: Brand New Day, IGN's review noted that the film "effectively refocuses on the most reliable pillars of the webslinger: battling inner turmoil, swinging around NYC saving the day, and looking cool while doing so."
