Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for Illumination's animated feature, Not Alone. The film, first announced at the 2026 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, stars Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez as two rocket scientists who find love amidst cosmic challenges.
Chalamet voices Joe, an introverted rocket mechanic, while Gomez portrays Fran, an astro-botanist developing a plant-fueled rocket. The trailer showcases their developing relationship as they prepare for the inaugural launch of Fran's revolutionary rocket. Their romance is complicated by the arrival of three small, alien refugees—Dunk, Welly, and Shirm—who are fleeing an inept law enforcement officer named Zandro. The aliens see Fran's rocket as their only hope to return home.
The alien characters are voiced by British comedians Rob Brydon, Diane Morgan, and Jamie Demetriou. Brett Goldstein lends his voice to Zandro. The supporting cast also includes Allison Janney and Lamorne Morris. The film is co-directed by Eric Guillon, Claire Dodgson, and Jonathan Del Val, with Chris Meledandri, founder and CEO of Illumination, serving as producer.
Illumination, known for franchises such as Minions, Despicable Me, and Sing, also produced The Super Mario Bros. Movie and its 2026 sequel, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The latter achieved the highest opening weekend of any film in 2026 and has since become the year's highest-grossing movie worldwide.
Not Alone is scheduled to be released in theaters in April 2027.
