Principal photography for James Gunn's "Superman: Man of Tomorrow" has officially concluded, the writer and director announced on Threads. The film, which stars David Corenswet as Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, is set to be the next major DC Universe blockbuster.
Gunn shared his "immense gratitude" to the cast and crew for what he described as a "truly joyful experience." He noted that filming for "Man of Tomorrow" began on April 20 and wrapped relatively quickly. Photos shared by Gunn showed Hoult jumping into a lake after the final shot and the core production team.
"Superman: Man of Tomorrow" is intended to usher in a new era for DC Comics films and Warner Bros., following up on Gunn's 2025 "Superman." While the first film performed well, the subsequent "Supergirl" did not meet expectations with critics or audiences.
The upcoming movie will feature Superman and Lex Luthor confronting a new threat, potentially the alien super-AI Brainiac, portrayed by Lars Eidinger. Brainiac has a significant history with both Luthor and Superman's cousin, Kara, who will also appear in "Man of Tomorrow." Milly Alcock reprises her role as Supergirl from the upcoming film.
Several other cast members are returning, including Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific.
"Superman: Man of Tomorrow" is scheduled to premiere in theaters on July 9, 2027. The film will also mark the theatrical debut of John Stewart, also known as Green Lantern, played by Aaron Pierre, who was recently featured in the HBO series "Lanterns."
