Jim Carrey, known for his roles in Ace Ventura and the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, is set to star in a live-action adaptation of The Jetsons. Warner Bros. confirmed the news in a letter to shareholders, following earlier speculation about the project.

While director Colin Trevorrow was previously linked to the film, his involvement has not yet been confirmed. This role marks Carrey's first live-action film outside of the Sonic the Hedgehog series in nearly a decade, with his last non-Sonic movie being 2016's Dark Crimes. Carrey is slated to reprise his role as Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 4, scheduled for release in 2027. He recently expressed that his decision to return for Sonic 3 was partly motivated by financial needs, humorously stating he "bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly."

First airing in 1962, The Jetsons is a classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon series that depicted a futuristic world with flying cars and robot maids, serving as a sci-fi counterpart to The Flintstones. The series was revived for additional episodes in the 1980s.

Numerous attempts have been made to revive The Jetsons as a live-action film over the past two decades. A previous iteration planned in the early 2000s never materialized, and rapper Kanye West was at one point reportedly involved in preliminary talks. Warner Bros. has continued to explore reboot possibilities, including an animated film directed by the Sausage Party director and a live-action sitcom produced by Robert Zemeckis, before this Carrey-led live-action movie was greenlit.
