Johnny Depp's return to the big screen as Ebenezer Scrooge has been previewed with the release of the first trailer for the upcoming film, "Ebenezer." The trailer debuted at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday in Hall H, coinciding with Depp's appearance at the convention in full Scrooge costume.

The film, directed by Ti West, known for his horror work including the "X" trilogy, offers a new interpretation of Charles Dickens' classic tale, "A Christmas Carol." The trailer, which reportedly draws parallels to Depp's past memorable roles, hints at a performance that embraces the miserly character. One scene shows Scrooge being swallowed by a haunted bed, an image that "Ebenezer" notes draw a connection to Depp's first on-screen appearance in "A Nightmare on Elm Street."

This marks Depp's latest significant role following a period of absence from major film productions. He joins a long roster of actors who have portrayed Scrooge, including George C. Scott, Patrick Stewart, and Jim Carrey.

The screenplay for "Ebenezer" was penned by Nathaniel Halpern, whose previous credits include "Tales from the Loop" and "Legion." The ensemble cast features Rupert Grint, Andrea Riseborough, Sam Claflin, Daisy Ridley, and Ian McKellen, among others. "Ebenezer" is slated for a theatrical release on November 13.
