The Jumanji franchise is set to conclude with its fifth film, "Jumanji: Open World," which will transport the game's avatars into the real world for their final adventure. Directed by Jake Kasdan, who helmed the previous two installments, the movie is slated for a Christmas Day release.

"Jumanji: Open World" follows the narrative established in "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle," where the game's players are sucked into its virtual world and must complete the game to return home. The first film in this iteration, "Welcome to the Jungle," was a commercial success, earning over $950 million at the box office, followed by its sequel, "Jumanji: The Next Level."

The trailer for "Open World" reveals a significant shift in the series' premise: the avatars are now operating outside the game's familiar environment. These characters face unfamiliar dangers, though the ability to respawn offers a reprieve, as seen when Shelly is hit by a truck but quickly reappears unharmed.

Returning actors will once again portray new human hosts for the avatars. Notably, Spencer's mother, Janice, will embody Dr. Smolder Bravestone (Dwayne Johnson), while her nephew, Tyson, becomes Mouse (Kevin Hart). Spencer himself will take on the role of Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan), and Donatas, a restaurant chef, will become Shelly (Jack Black). The dynamic between Johnson and Hart is expected to be a central highlight.

Kasdan's return as director, coupled with the film's novel concept of characters navigating the real world, positions "Jumanji: Open World" for potential box-office success. The narrative promises comedic scenarios as the video game characters grapple with reality, while Spencer and his family confront their own transport into the Jumanji universe.

"Jumanji: Open World" is scheduled to premiere exclusively in theaters on Christmas Day.
