Keanu Reeves will reprise his role as John Wick in an upcoming animated prequel film, Lionsgate has confirmed. The movie will focus on the "Impossible Task," the night Wick eliminated his rivals to gain freedom from the High Table.
Shannon Tindle, director of Ultraman: Rising, is set to direct the animated feature, with Ryan and Kaz Firpo of Eternals fame attached as co-writers. The animation studio for the project has not yet been announced.
An Expanding John Wick Universe
This animated prequel adds another installment to the burgeoning John Wick universe. While John Wick: Chapter 4 seemingly concluded the assassin's story, a fifth live-action film is also in development. Reeves has starred in all four main installments and appeared in the recent spinoff Ballerina, featuring Ana de Armas.
Another spinoff centered on Donnie Yen's blind assassin character, Caine, from John Wick: Chapter 4, has recently completed its principal photography. The franchise also expanded to television with the 2023 series The Continental: From the World of John Wick, which explored the backstory of the assassin-friendly hotels.
A release date for the animated John Wick film has not yet been revealed.
