Makoto Shinkai's 2016 anime film, Your Name, is set to receive a theatrical re-release across North America next month, presented in a new 4K remaster. GKIDS will distribute the film, making it available in theaters nationwide beginning August 14.
The re-release will feature both the original Japanese language version and an English-dubbed option. IGN has debuted the trailer for this new version of the film.
Produced by CoMix Wave Films, Your Name achieved significant global success upon its initial release, grossing over $400 million worldwide. This makes it the highest-grossing original Japanese animated feature to date.
The film tells the story of Mitsuha, a rural schoolgirl, and Taki, a city-dwelling teenager, who inexplicably begin to swap bodies. They navigate each other's lives while grappling with the complexities of their newfound connection, a bond that ultimately complicates their efforts to meet in person.
Critics have praised the film for its visual artistry and emotional narrative. IGN's review at the time highlighted the "gorgeous" animation and a story that is both "lovely" and effectively handles its time-travel elements, suggesting it is "definitely worth a watch."
