Minions & Monsters, the third film centered on the popular yellow creatures, has officially launched on digital storefronts, including Prime Video. This release follows just over 40 days after the movie’s theatrical debut.
The film has achieved significant commercial success, grossing over $473 million globally against a reported budget of $85 million, positioning it among the year's top 10 highest-earning movies. While it did not reach the box office heights of Despicable Me 4, Minions & Monsters has been met with critical acclaim. IGN's review awarded the film an 8/10, calling it "the best one yet" and highlighting its "cinephile-oriented" approach.
Digital availability options include renting for $19.99 or purchasing for $29.99. Those who opt for the full purchase will receive digital extras, such as behind-the-scenes featurettes. Additionally, Prime Video is offering a bundle of all three Minions films for $49.99, a $10 discount from the usual price.
Minions & Monsters serves as a prequel, transporting viewers to the 20th century. The narrative follows a tribe of Minions who, in their search for a new "Big Boss," mistakenly identify an actor as a notorious villain, drawing them into the world of Hollywood. IGN reviewer Eric Goldman described the film as an "ode to early Hollywood and to the power of cinema and storytelling" through the use of the Minions characters.
The movie is also available for preorder on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K formats, with physical editions expected to ship on September 8. Amazon is currently offering a discount on the 4K collector's edition.
Regarding future installments, no specific details have been announced for the Despicable Me franchise or the Minions. Illumination Studios has recently expanded its portfolio with animated adaptations of Nintendo properties, notably The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which surpassed $1 billion at the global box office and currently stands as the highest-grossing animated film of 2026. This success may lead the studio to prioritize further Nintendo collaborations.
Minions & Monsters is anticipated to eventually stream on Peacock, joining the rest of the Despicable Me franchise. Given that Despicable Me 4 arrived on the service approximately four months after its theatrical release in 2024, Minions & Monsters is expected to be available to Peacock subscribers by the end of October.
