Netflix and Sega are collaborating on a live-action Crazy Taxi film, scheduled to premiere on the streaming service in 2027. The screenplay will be written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, who previously worked on "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend," "How I Met Your Mother," and the upcoming "Naked Gun" film.

Neal H. Moritz and Toby Ascher, producers of the "Sonic the Hedgehog" movie franchise, will produce the "Crazy Taxi" film alongside Sega's Toru Nakahara. "This film is for anyone who's spent hours behind the wheel of a yellow cab on their Dreamcast, with the music cranked up, smashing through everything in sight just to make the next fare," stated Moritz and Ascher in a press release. The announcement comes as Sega also prepares for a new "Crazy Taxi" game next year.

This partnership extends beyond "Crazy Taxi." Netflix and Sega are also developing a new Sonic animated series aimed at preschoolers and a live-action movie based on RGG Studio's "Stranger Than Heaven." Sega has reportedly been attempting to bring "Crazy Taxi" to the big screen for approximately two decades, with director Richard Donner once attached to the project.

The upcoming "Crazy Taxi: World Tour" game is expected to feature expanded lore, including driver backstories that explain their motivations for becoming taxi drivers. The integration of narrative elements into the game might provide a foundation for the film's storyline.
