Netflix is developing a new animated series based on Blizzard Entertainment's popular Diablo franchise, Blizzard President Johanna Faries announced at BlizzCon 2026. The announcement was accompanied by a teaser for potential future series drawing from some of the company's other game universes.
Faries expressed her personal excitement for the project, citing her experience as a Diablo player and her appreciation for the game's dark world of Sanctuary. "We are thrilled to share that we are in development for a new animated series for Diablo with Netflix," she stated during the event. "It's just the beginning; to our Overwatch community, to our Warcraft community, and who knows — perhaps even some of our other universes, just know there are great discussions being had."
Blizzard issued a press release elaborating on the announcement, noting the company's intention to expand its storytelling beyond games. "After decades of bringing entire universes to life through our games, we’re partnering with some creative powerhouses to tell even more stories beyond gaming across new screens," the statement read. "A new animated series set in the world of Diablo is in development with Netflix. More details will be shared in the future, but this is only the beginning, with even more taking shape across our universes."
BlizzCon 2026 also featured other significant Diablo-related reveals, including the announcement of Diablo V, slated for a Spring 2029 release. This next installment will reportedly explore a future where Diablo has already conquered Sanctuary, leaving players to navigate a world without safe havens. "For the first time, you won't be fighting to stop Diablo for taking Sanctuary. You'll enter a world where he already has. There are no towns or safe places to protect you. ...what must you become when the world has already fallen?" franchise leaders described during the showcase.
Additionally, a new class pack, the Amazon, is scheduled for release in Diablo IV in 2027. The game is also coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. Diablo IV's Season 15 is available now, offering players a retrospective look at the series' history.
