Netflix's 'The Magician's Nephew' Logo Revealed Ahead of Dual Release Strategy

Netflix has unveiled the logo for "Narnia: The Magician's Nephew," the upcoming fantasy film directed by Greta Gerwig. The movie is set to premiere in theaters on February 12, with IMAX previews starting February 10. This theatrical release will be exclusive for nearly three months, as Netflix plans to make the film available for streaming beginning April 2.

This extended theatrical window is an unusual strategy for Netflix, which has previously given shorter runs to films like "The Irishman" and "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery." "The Magician's Nephew" adapts the chronologically first book in C. S. Lewis' Narnia series, a story that has not been previously adapted for the screen. The film boasts an all-star cast including Carey Mulligan, Daniel Craig, Emma Mackey, Ciarán Hinds, and Meryl Streep, with newcomers David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell in the young lead roles.

Despite this approach for "The Magician's Nephew," Netflix's film head Dan Lin has indicated that the streamer generally will not collaborate with filmmakers who prioritize theatrical releases, suggesting Gerwig's film is a notable exception to their typical strategy.
