The Pokémon Company has announced a new animated movie titled Pokémon: Wild Card, slated for release starting in 2027. The reveal occurred during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Pokémon World Championships.

Tsunekazu Ishihara, President and CEO of The Pokémon Company, stated that this marks the first new Pokémon movie in seven years. He highlighted that the film's protagonist is a player of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, mirroring the aspirations of the championship attendees.

A 39-second teaser trailer for Pokémon: Wild Card was shown, emphasizing the Pokémon Trading Card Game, the character Mimikyu, and the protagonist engaged in a card game. The animation for the movie is being handled by CloverWorks, known for their work on "My Dess-up Darling" and "Bocchi the Rock!". Katsuhiko Kitada will direct, Story inc. will produce, and Akemi Hayashi is credited with character designs.

The movie's tagline, "starting in 2027 and beyond," suggests potential future developments connected to the film. While Pokémon: Wild Card is the only feature-length movie announced, another animated project, Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d and Pichu, originally revealed in 2025, also had new details shared regarding its streaming on DisneyXD during a panel at PokemonXP.
