Aardman Animations and The Pokémon Company have unveiled new artwork and story details for their forthcoming stop-motion series, titled Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu. The update was provided during an Aardman panel at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
The new image features the titular Sirfetch'd and Pichu, alongside an official synopsis that describes the series as a journey through the United Kingdom-inspired Galar region. The show is slated for a 2027 premiere.
"Our heroes embark on a gallant quest to help and protect Pokémon across the region," the synopsis states. "Their missions rarely go as planned, but their noble deeds forge their friendship as they step bravely into the unknown. Peril, alliances, rivalries, extraordinary Pokémon, and endless laughs await them."
Phil Rynda, director of animation at The Pokémon Company, and Aardman chief creative director Sarah Cox offered behind-the-scenes insights, pilot footage, and details on how the studio is applying its stop-motion expertise to the Pokémon universe. Cox commented, "Aardman are delighted to bring the vivid physicality of stop frame animation into the Pokémon world. Director Tom Parkinson and team have created a hand-crafted spin on the wonderful Pokémon we all know and love with comedic storytelling that celebrates the quirks, eccentricities and charms of our heroes as they explore Galar on a delightfully offbeat quest. Aardman and Pokémon share a strong commitment to creativity and talent on this shared quest of our own to bring joy to audiences across the world."
While a firm release date has not yet been announced, the series is expected in 2027. This project follows The Pokémon Company's recent venture into stop-motion with Netflix and Dwarf Studios' Pokémon Concierge, which received a 7/10 review upon its release in late 2023 and is set to receive more episodes in 2025.
