The upcoming stop-motion Pokémon series, "Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d and Pichu," has a production timeline that spans approximately 110 weeks per episode, according to a panel at Pokemon XP in San Francisco. The show, a collaboration between The Pokémon Company and Aardman Animations, the studio behind "Wallace and Gromit" and "Chicken Run," follows the adventures of Sirfetch'd and Pichu in the Galar region.
Creative lead James Young shared that the series will focus on slapstick humor and will feature no dialogue or human characters, drawing parallels to Aardman's previous work on "Shaun the Sheep." The team is meticulously crafting each element by hand, including puppets and sets. To achieve a sense of scale, multiple sizes of key characters have been created, with the Obstagoon puppet noted as being particularly large, roughly twice the size of Sirfetch'd.
While multiple episodes are in production concurrently, involving puppet creation, set building, and visual effects, the lengthy individual episode development underscores the detailed approach. "Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d and Pichu" is slated to premiere on Disney+ in 2027. The series will primarily feature Pokémon native to the Galar region, including Obstagoon, the final evolution of Galarian Zigzagoon.
