As Atlus gears up for the release of Persona 4 Revival in February, the company is offering a free opportunity to experience the game's narrative through its animated adaptations. Both Persona 4 and Persona 4 Golden anime series are currently available to stream in their entirety on Aniplex's official YouTube channel for a limited, undisclosed period.
The original 26-episode anime series, which first aired between 2011 and 2012, has been compiled into a playlist. This adaptation covers the majority of the original Persona 4 story, though it omits characters introduced in the subsequent Golden version, such as Marie. Despite these omissions, the series is considered a strong retelling of the game's plot, offering a compelling way to engage with the narrative outside of gameplay.
However, the currently available version on YouTube does not include the English dub. Viewers will need to watch the Japanese version with subtitles.
Aniplex has also made the Persona 4 Golden anime available. This series, roughly half the length of the original, features pacing that can feel more rushed due to its shorter runtime. It does, however, incorporate Marie's storyline, which was a key addition to the enhanced remaster that launched on the Vita in 2012. This Golden adaptation was never released with an English dub and can only be streamed in Japanese with subtitles.
These anime adaptations have historically served as an accessible entry point for new fans. The animation provides a lower barrier to entry compared to playing the game, making it an effective method for introducing the world and story of Persona 4 to friends. The narrative structure also lends itself to interactive viewing experiences, such as pausing before key reveals to allow viewers to guess the culprit.
